The science of being a successful leader

Leader! It’s a title that comes with a lot of responsibility. A good leader can take charge and make things happen, but they are also someone who better knows how to put others’ needs first. Being a responsible leader means always making the right decisions, even when they’re not easy. It means being honest and trustworthy and always doing what you say you’re going to do. It means staying positive in difficult times and never giving up on your goals or your team. Leadership is about taking responsibility and not making excuses.

Jaipuria School of Business organized a CEO Talk session on “Responsible Leadership” on 28 January 2022, which Mr. Venkatesh Mahadevan, Chief Investment Officer, Dubai Investment PJSC, headed.

His thoughts were an eye-opener for every leader in the room – especially those who have been blaming external factors that are uncontrollable instead of figuring out how they can get things done themselves!

Mr. Venkatesh started the session by giving a deep knowledge of responsible leadership.

“Everybody wants to be a leader. Everybody wishes to be addressed by different names. But, when it comes to taking the bullet on yourself. A lot of people shy themselves,” said Mr. Venkatesh.

To make the session more interesting, he asked a question to the students,” How many of you wake up in the morning without an excuse. Every morning as we stand in the front of the mirror, we start making excuses.”

“A leader is one who never makes excuses. Leadership comes with responsibilities. You become a leader when you stand up and take responsibility for somebody somewhere who is not even related to you,” he added.

During his address, Mr. Mahadevan added a few essential qualities that a leader must have:

  • Inclusive Leadership
  • Empathetic Leadership
  • Technology Leadership
  • Futuristic Leadership
  • Humane leadership

The session was exciting and led curious students to ask several well-addressed questions and clarified by Mr. Venkatesh. He answers all their questions by giving real-life examples to understand them better. He inspired students to see the good in every day and find ways of living their lives with positivity. He taught students that life is not just a question but an adventure waiting for them at every turn!

Jaipuria School of Business highlights the advanced learning of students through experience and caters to this idea through workshops and seminars. Many students with a vast attendance attended the session, where they learned Responsible Leadership, why these are important and how these techniques could support their life goals!
